The updated Battlestar Galactica (BSG) TV series introduced this amazing franchise to millions of new viewers and the game is a worthy follow on from that.
In the BSG board game you take the role of one of the members of the fleet, each with their own special ability. In addition to this, each player is dealt a secret card that confirms that they are human player, or that they are in fact a Cylon!
The aim of the game, for the human characters at least, is to jump the battlestar and the fleet a set distance over the course of the game.
At the same time, the Cylon player(s) are attempting to destroy the battlestar or stop them from achieving the required number of jumps.
The game is an excellent mix of cooperative planning and strategy, with a healthy amount of distrust and paranoia to keep it interesting.
Where every move is analysed and questioned, even a simple mistake can make a human player the target of suspicion. In the meantime the Cylon players can wreck havoc.
Game play can be slow, as each player tops up on cards which are used to vote on outcomes or provide some other ability. At the end of each turn the player also reveals a challenge which the team needs to overcome from a random draw pile.
Even without the betrayal element this can be a tough game to play. High on atmosphere and tension, this is a firm favourite for many experienced gamers.
